This dissertation revolves around the interlingual subtitling from Greek to English of the short film Ιερά Πόλις (‘Sacred City’), for the D/deaf and the Hard-of-Hearing. The short film narrates the chronicle that led to the fateful fall of the Greek city of Messolonghi by the Ottoman armies in 1826. The writer/translator elaborates profoundly on his translating procedure, as well as the film itself. The paper concludes with an extensively detailed commentary, which delves into the various challenges and impediments the translator faced throughout his venture, and the methods he used to overcome them, while also providing significant information about the film’s structure, content, and historical background.

The vine (Vitis vinifera L.) is a bushy perennial plant with a high commercial value of its products. The main products of the vine are table grapes, raisins, wine, grape juice, concentrated must and vinegar. Other products, which derived from winemaking residues or viticulture, are vine leaves for culinary use, tartaric acid, grape seed oil. The most important compounds found in grapevine products are carbohydrates, organic acids, nitrogenous and phenolic compounds, flavonoids, anthocyanins and tannins, with significant benefits for the human body. In Kefalonia island, Robola is the main cultivable variety (approximately 3,500 acres). The most important product is the white dry wine, thin, fruity and light named "Rombola Kefalonia", which is ranked among the three noblest varieties of the Greek vineyard. Its compounds show antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In the present study, due to investigating the best combination of robola biotype, a significant number of grape samples from the experimental organic vineyard of robola, were studied, in terms of its viticultural characteristics, during the last phase of their ripening. In this work, the number and weight of grapes, as well as the volume of juice (must) of the samples are collected. The number and weight of gigaters they contained are examined, as well. The chemical characteristics of grape must (active acidity - pH, content of sugars and total acidity) are detailed studied. The results of different biotype combinations showed a similar behavior for the different ampelographic characteristics.

This thesis was carried out in the framework of the Postgraduate Studies Programme entitled: "Science of Translation" of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpretation of the School of Humanities of the Ionian University. The subject of the project is the creation of audio subtitles and their translation from English to Greek for the American production documentary, which was broadcasted by Frontline via PBS, entitled "Prison State". The introduction includes a detailed description of the subject of this thesis and the presentation of information about the documentary and the reasons that led me to this particular choice. The first part lists the subtitles as they were created by hearing for the film. The second part approaches audiovisual translation as a particular type of translation, which requires a specialised methodology for reproducing meanings with time and space constraints, while the third part presents and analyses the challenges that emerged during this process and the strategies that were used to manage them. This is followed by the conclusions in the form of an epilogue. Finally, a glossary annex is provided with the legal terms encountered and their interpretations.

This dissertation is about the subtitling of the short documentary film “Breathe” by director Zac Norrington starring Julie Ridge, the first person to swim two consecutive laps around Manhattan Island, New York and subsequently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. As mentioned above, this is a short documentary film with a total duration of approximately 16 minutes, with English as the source language and Greek as the target language. The choice of this particular film was made due to my personal interest in mental health issues and how these are presented through audiovisual media.

The subject of the Thesis is the translation and translational commentary of four texts by Dr. James M. Dorsey, journalist and consultant, on the exploitation, control and degradation of the inhabitants of the Middle Eastern countries. All four articles were published in the first months of 2020 on ResearchGate and specifically present the problems that arise - both in these countries and globally - when basic human rights are being violated. The reader in the first text is informed about the coronavirus and the dangers posed by its pandemic, first in the refugee camps and displaced in the Middle East and North Africa and consequently worldwide. The second text refers to the restriction of freedom of expression and the media in Pakistan, comparing it with the model of China. In addition, it informs the reader about the reasons for this restriction and about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The third text then goes on to defend political freedoms by comparing two incidents that took place in Israel and Scandinavia. Through this comparison, the author of the text points out the lack of basic freedoms and democratic rights in both the Middle East and the western countries of anti-democratic leaders. Finally, the fourth text informs the reader of the struggle of the inhabitants of the Middle Eastern countries to claim their rights through protests and demonstrations - even if they have to suffer the violence of the armed forces. Consequently, the general axis of information of the reading public is the violation of basic human rights in the Middle East by its civilizanionalists and authoritarian leaders and the claim of these by its inhabitants.

The aim of this Thesis is the creation and completion of a digital collage collection as well as the writing of a text that refers to its theoretical documentation. The theoretical part begins with the study on the main theme of the works which is dreams where analysis is made in areas such as religion, science and psychology. Then it goes on to research both the attribution of dreams to works of art and the importance and impact they have had on the arts historically. Then there is a historical review of the art of collage, artists and works from the first appearance of this method until today in the digital era with digital collage. Finally, there is a detailed analysis of the steps followed based on the theoretical research in order to complete the collection of digital collage works.
