The following dissertation is focused on the translation of a technical text, and more particularly of a medical text, which focuses on the topic of cancer in Germany. The original text is a chapter of a medical research of 2015 from Robert Koch Institut (RKI).The purpose of this research is to mention and analyze all illnesses that appear in Germany. In the chapter of cancer, all types of cancer existing in Germany are mentioned. Moreover, prognostic and predictive factors are mentioned, such as the attendance of cancer prognostic tests and early detection screenings or the maintenance of a healthy way of life. Furthermore, this chapter refers to the various prognostic tests and the number of them that are offered free of charge by the German health insurance funds. Another aspect of this research are the death and morbidity rates of all cancer types found in Germany that are presented through an extensive time analysis starting in the early 21st century and some decades before. Last but not least, some action plans are brought up, which aim at the improvement of prognostic tests in the future and raising awareness of German citizens about the risks of cancer and the importance of prognosis in everyone's life.

The following thesis consists of the translation and commentary of two lease agreements, one from German to Greek and one from English to Greek. The aim of the thesis is, through the translation of the above mentioned texts, to make a comparative analysis of the translations and to highlight the translation problems encountered due to different cultures and different legal systems (English, German). Based on the Skopos theory and Stolze's (2013: 9-10) translation techniques for dealing with legal terminology, we were able to provide solutions to translation problems involving terms that are not found in other legal and correspondingly cultural systems. This thesis examines whether through these translation choices it is possible to preserve the legal order of the original text, while at the same time provide a translation that is intended exclusively for a Greek-speaking recipient.
